Testing the water resistance and weather resistance of adhesive

For high-density wood, panels bonded with adhesive should first be foamed or boiled, then baked for testing, especially during times of large humidity changes such as morning and evening. Otherwise, the bonded surfaces are prone to cracking, causing significant loss, which is the biggest waste of factory cost. Polymers used for good bonding have excellent water resistance and baking resistance. The required raw material prices must be higher than those for water resistance and baking resistance. The synthesis process is also complex, with high processing costs. Water resistance and weather resistance can be evaluated according to the Japanese JAS standard, the European EN204/205 D4 standard, and the cold and hot cycle test.

Testing the solvent resistance of adhesive

After splicing panels are painted, there may be uneven joints or finger joints because the adhesive expands when resistant to solvents. The spliced panels can be soaked in thinner (banana oil) to see if there is any expansion, in order to test the solvent resistance of the adhesive. Low-end woodworking adhesives have poor solution resistance.

Looking at the environmental protection indicators of adhesive

The raw materials used by woodworking adhesive manufacturers are high-value, environmentally friendly, and safe for glue applicators and consumers. Especially preservatives and plasticizers are environmentally friendly. Inferior adhesives use low-cost formaldehyde preservative plasticizers that are harmful to the human body, not to mention the problem of exceeding the total amount of organic volatiles. How do you choose?

For example, the standard inspection report and the "China Environmental Labeling Product Certification" issued by the State Environmental Protection Administration, commonly known as the "Green Ten Rings", are also one of the ways to verify quality. When purchasing, you can obtain the certification report from the sales staff of the woodworking adhesive manufacturer, or check the authenticity through official channels using the certificate number, or take a sample of the adhesive used in production and entrust a third-party testing agency to test the environmental friendliness and harmful substance content of the adhesive.
