When it comes to splicing adhesive, everyone is familiar with it. Splicing adhesive is an essential material in decoration. The main component of splicing adhesive is polyvinyl acetate emulsion, which has a good waterproof effect. So, do you know the formula of splicing adhesive? Are you clear about the usage methods and precautions of splicing adhesive? If not, come with me to learn about the formula of splicing adhesive and how to use splicing adhesive.
1. What is the formula of splicing adhesive?
The ratio of main agent to curing agent is 100:13-15 (by weight).
Mix the main agent and curing agent according to the ratio and stir thoroughly for 3-5 minutes until uniform.
After the adhesive is prepared, use it within 35-45 minutes. The faster it is used, the better. When severe foaming and thickening occur, stop using and discard it. (Depending on indoor temperature changes: the higher the temperature, the shorter the time.)
2. How to use splicing adhesive.
Control the wood moisture content to 8-15%.
Before splicing, the wood should be clean, flat, smooth, and not warped.
Before preparing the splicing adhesive, prepare the pressing equipment and other clean, water-free tools.
The mixing of splicing adhesive and curing agent must be thoroughly stirred. Weight should be used for calculation. For example, when using a measuring cup for the ratio, you must first weigh it, then pour it into the measuring cup, and mark the position with a pen stroke. Next time, measure according to the previous measurement position (because the curing agent is heavier than the splicing adhesive by volume). The ratio is by weight, not by volume.
The low ratio of splicing adhesive to curing agent is between 10:1.5 and 10:1.8. Use within 2 hours after mixing, but it is best to use as much as needed, finishing within about 4 hours. During use, if bubbles are found to be normal, you can continue using it with micro bubbles. If there is excessive foaming, stir several times with a clean wooden strip. The bubbles will be soaked and can be used again.
The adhesive application on the panel substrate surface must be even. The speed of adhesive application, panel splicing, and pressing should be fast, otherwise the surface will cure and affect the panel splicing effect.
For splicing large panels, try to apply a thick layer of splicing adhesive to prevent surface curing. The application amount of splicing adhesive is about 300g/m². After the panel is pressed, there must be splicing adhesive flowing out on both sides. No splicing adhesive flowing out is abnormal and prone to glue line opening.
After taking the splicing adhesive or curing agent from the packaging, be careful to seal the bag opening or lid properly to prevent prolonged contact with air, so as to avoid失效.
The pressure should be balanced when pressing. Pressure: softwood 6-10 kg/cm², hardwood 10-15 kg/cm².
The longer the pressure release time, the better. If pressing time is long, small area panels can be unloaded after 2 hours, large area panels after 5 hours. However, after unloading before the next process, it must be within about 3 hours, because the complete curing time for all water-based splicing adhesives in dry weather is 24 hours.
After work, use tap water to clean the tools. When working, use clean, water-free tools, and try to prepare several sets of tools (such as for washing and rolling).
If testing is needed, do it after 3 days. Testing method: Soak the spliced panels in tap water for 1-2 days, then take them out to dry, then test the tensile strength and strength.
3. Precautions for using splicing adhesive.
The storage temperature of the adhesive should be above 8°C, and the use temperature should be above 10°C. When using in winter, the splicing section can be heated, and it is recommended to be above 15°C.
Prevent the curing agent from contacting water or being exposed to air for a long time, so as to avoid失效. Do not mix impurities into the adhesive, and be careful not to mix in oily substances.
The amount of adhesive applied during pressing should not cause adhesive overflow to connect to adjacent glue lines. Be careful not to let adhesive overflow connect to the two poles.
Clean the adhesive application tools promptly. When hands or skin come into contact with the adhesive, promptly wash with water.
The above are the formula, usage method, and precautions during use of splicing adhesive. Splicing adhesive is a common decorative material in daily life. Therefore, be sure to learn more before decorating so that there will not be too much trouble during decoration.
