In fact, from raw wood to finished products, furniture uses adhesive more or less at various stages. From the experience of our woodworking adhesive manufacturer, the adhesives used in woodworking can generally be divided into three types: water-based adhesive, solvent-based adhesive, and hot melt adhesive. Below, we will explain the differences between them:

1. Water-based woodworking adhesive
Water-based adhesive mainly uses water as a solvent and is made by emulsifying materials such as acrylic or polyurethane resin. The main advantages of water-based adhesive are: a wide variety of products, safety, and environmental friendliness. As people pay increasing attention to environmental awareness, furniture manufacturers now tend to favor water-based adhesive. Therefore, water-soluble adhesive, due to its product diversity, environmental safety, and reasonable price, will be the future development direction of adhesives. However, the disadvantage of water-based adhesive is its poor film-forming properties.

2. Solvent-based woodworking adhesive
Solvent-based adhesive mainly uses oily solvents (toluene, butanone, etc.) as solvents to melt acrylic or polyurethane. Compared with water-based adhesive, solvent-based adhesive has the advantages of good film-forming properties and high bonding strength. However, the defects of solvent-based adhesive are also quite significant. After all, various non-environmentally friendly oily solvents are added to the raw materials, which cannot meet everyone's requirements for non-toxicity and environmental protection. Moreover, the price of raw petroleum has been rising continuously, leading to increased costs. Therefore, it has no advantage compared to water-based adhesive, and furniture manufacturers will increasingly tend to choose environmentally friendly adhesives.

3. Hot melt woodworking adhesive
Hot melt woodworking adhesive is what others call hot melt adhesive. Hot melt adhesive is a plastic adhesive. Its chemical principle is that at a certain ambient temperature, its physical state changes with temperature, but its chemical characteristics remain unchanged. It is non-toxic and odorless, belonging to environmentally friendly adhesive products. Hot melt adhesive bonding uses a glue melting machine to melt the adhesive by heat. The adhesive in its molten state is a viscous liquid, which is sent through a hose built into the hot melt machine to the surface of the substrate to bond the product. After cooling, the hot melt adhesive can produce bonding strength.
